Rice balls, mini sausages sautéed in ketchup, egg rolls with kale, sliced kirby cucumbers & carrots. Making this bento made me nostalgic, this was one of the most coveted bento one could have when I went to school in Korea, besides bulgogi & japchae. All the kids would sit with their own little cliques and open up their bento and share/trade their side dishes. If one didn’t have good side dishes, no one would eat yours and therefore you couldn’t eat theirs, which was the unspoken rule and etiquette. My mom packed me kimchi and dried anchovies most of the time, the least coveted side dishes so no one wanted to share/trade with me. The kids who brought the mini sausages and egg rolls got to trade as much as they wanted. I recently had a talk with my older sister about this and she said she always got mini sausages, bulgogi and all the coveted side dishes on a daily basis! I was so mad! Haha. I guess by the time I(the youngest of her 5 children) started school, she was done making lunches. I would be too so I can’t blame her! 😀
These look amazing, really creative and different!
