A XXL women’s shirt into a little girls dress w/ tulip pockets
BEFORE:
my son refused to move away so a picture with him it is! I’ve learned to choose my battles and also think to myself, “Will this matter in the end on my deathbed?” That is how I survive motherhood. 🙂
Right when I saw this XXL women’s shirt at a thrift store for $5(it still had the tags on, don’t you love when that happens?), I automatically had an image pop in my head so I started on the project hoping it would execute just the way I imagined.
Using my HP Sprout computer, I found an outline of a tulip by searching “tulip outline” on the search engine and then dragging the picture down to the white pad. Then, using a red extra fabric I had from another DIY, I laid the fabric on top of the white pad and used the outline to trace the tulip. It was nice to lay down the fabric on a flat surface as I traced instead of holding it up vertically on the computer screen, trying to trace it while trying to hold up the fabric in place.
I used a dress that’s similar to the fit and the waist length I wanted to compare it to.
Laid the dress on top of the bodice to estimate how much to take in.
The top sleeve is the before, and the bottom sleeve is the after.
And then sew the pockets on to the dress. And you’re done!
Since the theme is stripes & floral, I thought it’d be cute to add tulip design pockets for the floral. And guess who decided to join in on the photo shoot again? He’s been into copying his big sisters lately, can you tell?
And you guys! I am so proud of myself! I made my first video! I know it sucks hahaha, but I am still so proud of myself! When I went to a blog conference back in February, one class had us write down what we would do now if money, time, resources wasn’t an issue at all and we had everything in abundance. I wrote down how I’d make YouTube videos of my refashions. Then the speaker said “The very thing that you wrote down, do what you can with the money, time and resources you have now. Don’t wait until you have all of it in abundance. Start now with the best that you can. So I did it! And even though I don’t know a thing about editing, I don’t have a nice video camera so this was taken with my phone so it’s bad quality, and just everything is pretty bad, I still did it, yay!
What you’ll need:
